Abstract

This study was motivated by the fact that there are still students who are unable to read the Qur’an fluently, accurately in accordance with the rules of tajwid, and correctly in pronouncing the makharijul huruf (articulation points of Arabic letters). The purpose of this study was to determine the role of the Qur’anic Reading and Writing (BTQ) extracurricular activity in improving the Qur’an reading skills of students at MI Muhammadiyah Malua. This study employed a qualitative approach with a field research design. The research subjects consisted of 15 students from Grades IV, V, and VI, as well as the supervisor of the BTQ extracurricular program at MI Muhammadiyah Malua. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings revealed that the Qur’anic Reading and Writing (BTQ) extracurricular activity plays an important role in improving students’ Qur’an reading skills. This can be seen in the improvement of students’ reading fluency, accuracy in applying tajwid rules, and proficiency in pronouncing makharijul huruf. The BTQ program is implemented regularly through Qur’an reading lessons, tajwid practice, memorization submission sessions, and direct guidance from the supervising teacher. Supporting factors for this activity include school support, students’ enthusiasm, and the teaching methods employed. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors include limited implementation time and differences in students’ Qur’an reading abilities. Therefore, the Qur’anic Reading and Writing (BTQ) extracurricular activity at MI Muhammadiyah Malua plays a positive role in enhancing students’ Qur’an reading skills.
