Abstract

The development of science in Islamic civilization represents one of the most significant intellectual achievements in human history. During the Islamic Golden Age, Muslim scholars made substantial contributions to various fields of knowledge, including mathematics, astronomy, medicine, philosophy, chemistry, and education. This article examines the historical foundations of scientific development in Islamic civilization and explores its implications for contemporary education. Using a qualitative library research approach, the study analyzes classical and contemporary literature to identify the philosophical principles, educational values, and intellectual traditions that facilitated scientific advancement in the Islamic world. The findings reveal that the integration of religious values, rational inquiry, ethical responsibility, and a strong culture of knowledge-seeking formed the basis of scientific excellence in Islamic civilization. Furthermore, the study highlights how institutions such as mosques, madrasas, libraries, and centers of learning played a critical role in nurturing intellectual growth and innovation. In the context of contemporary education, the historical experience of Islamic civilization offers valuable insights for developing holistic educational systems that balance spiritual, moral, and scientific dimensions. The article argues that revisiting the scientific heritage of Islamic civilization can contribute to educational transformation by promoting critical thinking, interdisciplinary learning, innovation, and ethical scholarship. Ultimately, the integration of these historical foundations into modern educational practices can help address contemporary challenges while fostering sustainable intellectual and societal development.
